30 days of lists - final wrap-up

It is boggling my small brain to think that March is over. I swear it was just New Year's Eve, last week...

But the days go relentlessly by, and we do the best we can to just hold on.
And with the end of the fickle month of March (honestly, 6 snow days and a ton of windy ones, interspersed with an hour or two of sunshine here and there... March is all about the tease.)comes the end of 30 Days of Lists. Sigh.

I really enjoyed this project for a lot of reasons. (which I will enumerate below, for your inspection. And because, you know... I love lists!)

1. as someone new to the whole blogger scene, it was a great way to get initiated into the creative community.
2. the Flickr Group. seeing everyone's takes on the list was so awesome, and a great way to get to know other bloggers!
3. the sheer awesomeness of everyone's pages pushed me to create something unique, something better every day. not in a competitive way... just as a means of very real inspiration.
and 4. it was an excuse to do something creative and fun each day.

and so, I think you should all jump on board without hesitation for the next time. I'll be sure to let you know what's coming.

and for the final round-up, here is my last little group of lists:

Prompt: {Today i saw}

Prompt: {Things to do in your Hometown}

Prompt: {Books i want to read.. you know i loved this one. The hard part was containing it on one page}

Prompt: {Guilty Pleasures}

Prompt: {I make lists for_____}

Prompt: {I'd Rather Be ______}

Prompt: {Places I want to go. Loved this one as well :) }

To check out all my lists (disclaimer: i only have 25 of the 30... alas), descriptions and conversations, go HERE

30 days of lists - weekly round up

this week has been INSANELY busy,
so the lists are significantly lacking in cuteness... but i'll push my perfectionism and whatnot to the side today and post them anyway.

prompt: Things I Love About ___________.
so... since i go barefoot 94% of the time, i chose ten things i love about going barefoot. :)

Prompt: Shopping list.
But my shopping list is LOOOOOONG and frightfully dull... so this is a list of thing you can do at the grocery store to spice up your trip.

Prompt: DUYs i'd like to try.
i have sooooo many. here are a few of the top's.

(sorry, told you these were lame-looking. hopefully next week's will be a little more fun to look at.)

Prompt: Recipes i'd like to try
again... sooooo many. but this year we're doing a fun little project where we try foods from a different country every month. these are the types we have left:
Indian
Persian
African
Hungarian
Russian
Japanese
Dutch
Brazilian

Last Prompt: Celebrity Crushes.

check out the Flickr Photo Stream to see how everyone else filled out their lists. Better yet, join up and make some of your own!

30 days of lists - weekly round up

rather than posting a list every day... which was getting to be just TOO MUCH, i thought i'd just pop them all on here once a week.
so, here goes.

i think we left off on march 6th,

the 7th was Blog Goals:

the 8th: Favorite Sites

the 9th: Wishlist

March 10th: What's in your Bag?

March 11th: date night ideas

and yesterday's was: Weekly Rituals:

to see the discussions, and descriptions that go along with these, check out my Flickr stream, or better yet, the PhotoStream for the whole group!
there are some fantastically talented and wonderful people over there. :)

a beautiful and blessed sunday to you all,

30 days of lists- day three

prompt for today: Things I'm Looking Forward To.

i'm a big forward-looker in general; goal oriented and looking toward the horizon. the problem comes when i forget to watch the path i'm on at the moment as well.

i have a lot of long-term goals, and i think right now, i have a clearer vision of where i'm going and how to get there than i have in a long, long time. which is a nice feeling.

now, if i can just manage to keep plodding on, day to day, and to keep the enthusiasm percolating. (and the coffee... enthusiasm and coffee. yes.)

and so... the list:

sorry for the poor picture quality. it's done in pencil, and didn't photograph well.

it says,
I'm Looking Forward To:
*spring & planting a garden
*getting over this cold
*going back to school (yay!!)
*finishing school ;)
*publishing these books (three, currently in the editing process...)
*watching my kids be amazing
*being 73 ('cause maybe i'll be able to take a break then)
*Every. Single. Day.

and in the little box:
*finishing projects
*breakfast! (i was hungry when i made this)
*getting to know all of you!

so what's on your horizon?

30 days of lists - day two

today's prompt: Things I'm Good At

it feels like, as a woman, a mom, and just a human in this impossible and insane world, that we are required to be good at ... pretty much everything. a few more hands would be nice, metaphorical, or physical.
and so for today's list, i cut out a snappy little many-armed friend to help illustrate the point.

what are your special, hidden, quirky talents?

and don't forget to go check out the 30 days of lists flickr stream to meet all the other talented and amazing folks in the project. (i mean it. they're all superific.)

30 days of lists - day one

day one's prompt from the 30 days of lists project was pretty simple: A few things about yourself.

sounds pretty easy... unless you're a chronic over-thinker like i am.

i tend to get way overwhelmed thinking i have to be everything. and to be exactly like the people i admire. and of course we know that's silly and we should all just 'be ourselves' and not feel pressured by the awesomeness of others... but that's easier stitched on a pillow than done.
and a while ago i made a list (it was considerably longer than this one) of all the things that i am. and determined not to apologize for any of them. not even the ones that contradicted each other (ex: a slob, and a neat freak).
it was kind of a hard wall to push through, admitting to myself that i can't make everyone happy all the time. but i think it's important to follow what is true, regardless of how you are labeled for it, or whether or not it fits into some acceptable lifestyle mold.

i know that was all vague and unspecific, and maybe i'll get into the details at some point, but i feel like i've rambled enough for one day, and i'd like to keep this semi brief.

so... here's my edited-down, fits-on-one-quarter-sheet-of-paper list:

what about you? what things define you?

30 days of lists book

whew... got it done... barely.
and without further ado... my 30 days of lists roll-up book-on-a-chain!

side one... it's a toilet paper tube, that i paper mache'd some newsprint to. the book rolls up inside for safe keeping / display.

side two... i attached the book to the tube with a little chain so it won't get lost. at our house that's a legitimate concern.

and this is how it looks out of the tube. the crocheted 'of' makes me smile. like this --> =)
and now we're all ready to write write write!
i haven't done anything to the individual pages yet, but that will come with each day.

check out the flikr stream, HERE to see the other awesome list books. then go make your own!

stunning

i'm taking this quiet moment (seriously, if i get 45 minutes, today, i'll be thrilled) during nap time to make my 30 days of lists book. [i'm secretly giddy at the idea of making something purely for the fun of it. ... whee!]
so i'll get back later with some pics of the creation. :)

till then, though, LOOK. AT. THIS.
this guy, Brian Dettmer, is amazing. he hand carves EACH AND EVERY PAGE of these books - medical journals, encyclopedias, etc, to make these unbelievable pieces.

enjoy.

so thankful to my friend Mike for the link to
THIS  amazing and unbelievable display from the book surgeon
it completely blew my mind.

GO HERE to see more of the gallery.
i can't even imagine what it must be like to see these in person. soooo fantastic. and a great way to lead into book month! (note: books are good for other things aside from sculpting... just a reminder :)

snowed in + 30 days of lists + this week's arts and crafts collection

we've had some serious snow this weekend, and are stuck inside. :(
which means no church for us this morning. :(
so we did a little devotion and now the kiddos are curled up on the couch reading books and discussing their merits. :)

which is a perfect time for me to jump over here and tell you about 30 Days of Lists! i know we're doing the reading thing for march, but who says we can't do both?
we are nothing if not multitaskerific. :)

so, the deal is that you get a new prompt each day for 30 days starting march 1st, and you take it from there.
pretty simple.
and how fun to see everyone's different takes on the prompts.
and who doesn't love a good list??

so if you want to participate, or just check it out, head over to
30 Days of Lists (which, incidentally is run by three lovely bloggers,
kam of campfire chicamy of lemon and raspberry, and justine of a new beginning), and sign up for one of the giveaways, or get yourself inspired to join in the listy fun.

and, because it's the end of the week, here are a few great art ideas from around the webs. try one out and share!

1. tire track painting at tonyastaab

i can see my kids going nuts with this one. :)

2. THIS amazing table cover playhouse complete with door that opens, mailbox, windows and landscaping, from mama crafts

i mean... look at that thing. it is AWESOME!

if only i wasn't a ghastly seamstress... alas.

3. and THESE  recycled treasure beaded hangy things from sun hats & wellie boots

this one is on our list (lists lists lists!!!) of things to do 'for sure'!
